History and Background
The Church of the Nazarene (1908) enjoys a rich history and solid biblical doctrine. We are mainline Protestant, Christian, and Missional, with organized churches in 165 world areas. Douglasville First Church of the Nazarene is glad to be a part of this global denomination.
“You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!”
OUR BELIEFS
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
And is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.
And that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
Subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Are hopelessly and eternally lost
And also to the entire sanctification of believers.
The dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
Our History
The Church of the Nazarene opened its doors to the Douglasville Community in July 1976 under the leadership of Rev. David Patterson and District Superintendent Rev. Jack Lee. Much of the church building construction was completed by volunteers. Douglasville Church of the Nazarene is one of approximately 90 churches known as the Georgia District Church of the Nazarene. The history of pastoral leadership in Douglasville includes the following: Rev. David Patterson (76-81), Rev. Timothy Singell (81-83), Rev. Fletcher Digby (83-91), Rev. M. Ray Snow (92-02), Rev. Pat Merrill (02-04), Rev. Chris Nichols (05-08), and Dr. Steven J. Callis (2008-present).
WHAT TO EXPECT
Douglasville First is a warm-hearted, loving kind of church. The style is intimate and the worship music includes a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. Everybody’s welcome here no matter what stage of faith or walk of life. That said, we have a deep passion that God wants to transform all of us into who He calls us to be. We have one service that starts with a Sunday School time at 9:45 AM on Sundays. The service time is 10:45 AM.
When you come, you’ll notice that we’re right on Central Church Road where it comes together with Highway 5 (or, if you’re into good ice cream and organic vegetables…across the street from Farmer’s Table!).
As you enter the building through the doors under the awning, you’ll be greeted warmly. Straight ahead will be the sanctuary. On the right and up the stairs is the children’s ministry area for ages 4 through 5th grade. The youth also meet upstairs for ages 6th grade through 12th grade. On the left will be an adult Sunday School classroom. On the other side of the sanctuary to the left is a second adult Sunday School class that would love to have you join. During the worship service, Children’s Church is offered on the other side of the sanctuary to the right and upstairs in the fellowship hall (which is also where we occasionally serve delicious meals!) For children younger than age 4, the nursery is near the building entrance, and wonderful volunteers look forward to caring for them during the service.
WORSHIP FREELY
The service allows for worshipers to be actively involved through music, and introspetcively through prayer and Scripture. Services may also include a short video, receiving an offering, and sharing in the scarmaent of The Lord’s Supper (Communion). Teaching from the Word of God is offered in a warm manner with practical life application. The worship service varies a bit from week to week, but these elements are typical in our services, which usually lasts about an hour.
GREAT START TO YOUR WEEK
Sundays at Douglasville First Church of the Nazarene are a great start to any week. We hope you’ll join us! We also offer a Sunday night service at 6 PM and a Wednesday night Bible Study at 7 PM; this is a great time for us as we dive deeper into scripture and grow deeper in our relationship with Christ. We can’t wait to worship with you soon!
